Zebra in Dust The traditional game-viewing area of South Africa is Mpumulanga - the place where the sun rises. In the north-east corner of the country the world-famous Kruger National Park stretches from the Zimbabwe border nearly five hundred kilometres south to the Crocodile River. It is bordered on the west by conservation areas and private reserves well known for their exclusive safari lodges. In a country once teeming with wildlife this is the largest wilderness area left.
In many other areas of beauty and splendour great efforts are being made to return the land to the wild and re-introduce the African animals. There are also some long standing game areas such as Addo National Park in the Eastern Cape, Hluhluwe Game Reserve in KwaZulu Natal and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park; it links with Botswana and was the first of the 'Peace Parks'
