I have a very soft spot for Botswana. There my passion for Africa resurfaced and the memories of that first safari linger as if it were yesterday. I can instantly evoke the sound of splashing and the grunting of hippos at dusk, the soft crunch of dry leaves on the ground as hyenas crept around my tent in the night and the symphony of birdsong at dawn.

Besides the pleasure of the Okavango wetlands, there is the Makgadikgadi salt pans home of desert adapted creatures including the rare brown hyena along with scattered archaeological remnants of stone age man. The Savuti and Chobe areas of northwest Botswana are renowned for the vast herds of elephants and the multitude of birds that inhabit the fertile shores of the Chobe River.
